School Safety

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost children and family in today’s shootings in Connecticut.

Our school (and all 318 schools) have crisis plans in place that we are continually practicing and refining.  Many of the practices that we look at as different from when we went to school are often directly related to the safety of our students.  Sometimes these practices may seem an inconvenience, however are often in place specifically for the safety of our children.

With the sad news of today’s shootings, please be careful and aware what our children are seeing and hearing.  Also being aware of what they may pick up from other students/families.  Sometimes protecting our children includes making sure they aren’t exposed to too much information that they may not be able to comprehend or process.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.  I’m more than willing to talk about any concerns you may have and talk about specific practices at Murphy Elementary School.

The following link was given to me by one of our Murphy parents, I think it has some good suggestions:  How To Talk with Kids about a School Shooting

Give your little ones an extra hug today.
